was lonely ... was among 999 callers in the West Country over Christmas.
Although Christmas and New Year are times that many associate with joy and
celebration - a survey last Christmas showed that over 30% of people find this
the loneliest time of year, as this newspaper article reminds us.
Traditionally, Christmas and New Year are a time for drinking, eating & new
beginnings, promises & resolutions made and broken, regrets over the past
and hope for the future.
So, how do we survive Christmas & the New Year?
Letting Go
Let go of the past, of those who have hurt you and let you down.
Remember, that the first and often the only person to be healed by
forgiveness is the person who does the forgiveness, you!
Accepting where & who you are
Stop fighting so hard to change, move on, be someone different.
Remember, that there is nothing that you can do to make God love you more,
and nothing you can do to make God love you less.
He loves you just as you are.
You are OK!
Does this mean we can stay the same?
No, for although Christ accepts us as we are, when He accepts us, we cannot
remain as we are.
Looking to the future
Accept that God is in control, He loves you and wants the best for you.
The following quotation puts it perfectly:-
I stood at the door of the New Year and I said,
"Give me a light that might see my way safely into the unknown."
But a voice came to me and said,
"Instead step into the darkness and take the hand of God -
for it will be to you better than light
and safer than a known way."
