New Years Celebration & Party Ideas
Before hitting the New Years
sales, you will need to have celebrated the New Year in some suitably stylish way.
So, think large bowls full of
party poppers and confetti, planned fireworks displays and video game tournaments!
Instead of celebrating in a pub or club with
a bunch of random people, how about partying at home with friends and family?
You
could get some cheap flights to Las Vegas for New Years Eve, then party like princes and princesses along the
Strip. Or you could create this atmosphere at a party in your home town; taking many of the “O.C.” parties as
inspiration.
Celebrating with a Casino
Night
Start by working out your budget, to make
sure you don’t overspend. Then work out what things are most important to you: prioritise! So, if games is the most important thing for you, start by
doing some research into Las Vegas themed games.
You
could buy several packs of cards, some chips and a couple of tables; have a look on ebay for casino night party
supplies. Or you could hire in some party planners who will create the look and hire all the staff and equipment
for you.
You
must also decide whether party-goers are gambling real money, and if so, what each chip should represent (the
rates), and then whether this money is going to charity or back to the individual. Or, you could sell entrance
tickets for a high price and give each person a number of chips on entry, that then can be rewarded with
something silly...say 50 chips equals one bottle of red. If this is a big event, you might want to get some
companies to sponsor some prizes.
Then work on decorations and
invitations. Invites should be chic and well presented, as then you
are more likely to have more positive RSVPs; make sure to say that the event is black tie/cocktail dress. Go for
a black and red theme, with twinkly lights every to keep everything looking sultry. Give everyone a score card
and something to hold their chips in. You should keep a rule book at each “table” to ensure that everyone knows
what they are doing, and that any disputes are resolved swiftly!
How
about partnering up people, one novice and one old-hand? Make sure that everyone is having a good time by really
thinking through the music...a bit of Elvis through your iPod or a
live Jazz band are sure to set the mood at your event.
Hosting a Chinese New Year
Party
This occasion is celebrated on the first of
the Lunar Calendar, and thus is a different day every year according to the Gregorian calendar. For example,
2009, The Year of the Ox, is celebrated on January 26th.
To
decorate, choose red Chinese inspired items, like paper lanterns or banners with Chinese writing on, make sure
they are hung vertically. Make sure to have the traditional Chyuhn Haap in the centre of the room. This candy
tray is filled with eight different symbolic sweets, including candied water melon which represents growth and
good health, and peanuts signifying longevity.
Chinese new year and elementary activities
are an easy thing to mix. How about getting every child to write
down a wish on a piece of red paper, then to make their own special red envelope, which they decorate. Pop the
filled envelope in a special red bucket or bowl. You could also do this at any regular party, as an activity
throughout the evening.
Chinese new year party idea cake is very
important. This cake known as nian gao is known to be the most important food of the occasion. Made with rice
flour and brown candy, it is heavy, sticky and sweet, and represents through its texture the importance and hope
for close family ties. Other chinese new years dessert recipes could be for turnip cake or water chestnut
cake.
Throwing a New York
Party
For
those people not able to spend their holidays in the capital of New Years excitement and fun, try recreating a
bit of NY at home.
American new years traditions state that
towards midnight, the entire crowd must sing Auld Lang Syne at the top of their lungs. And of course counting
down to midnight, as if you were in Times Square, with a heap of confetti in your hands.
Another great pastime is to choose your
resolutions. Common new years resolutions include quitting smoking, spending more time with family, learning new
things and to lose weight.
Make sure to think of decorating ideas for
your new years eve party well in advance. To make a party really successful you need to create an atmosphere,
and decor is an easy way to do this (as is music: have it loud and well-chosen). Pop balloons everywhere, both
helium filled and ones floating on the floor.
Lots of flowers and candles make the space
come alive, and fill up a room with party cheer; for extra New York effect get loads of cheap and cool lights,
to make it look like Times Square. Why not put up a large poster of a NY Skyline to really transport the
imagination. Bowls of delicious things to eat are also an excellent decorative accessory to a space, and that
Champagne is pretty important to a NY New Years.
Start thinking about what will be in the
next year or congratulate yourselves on the past year by having a board of accomplishments. Get everyone to
contribute at least one thing to the list at the beginning of the evening.
To
top off the evening, make sure everything is so organised that you can enjoy mingling with everybody, and make
sure to leave clearing up for the morning!
Common New Years Resolutions
Wondering how to welcome to New Year
2009 - 2010 ?
How & where to spend New Year?
This is a time of year we traditionally spend with family & friends.
It's a time of looking forwards, new year's resolutions, thinking of our hopes
and dreams for the coming year.
Christmas and New Year Party Ideas
At such a
special time of year, try inviting all your friends round for a Scandinavian Christmas Eve party. Serve a
Smorgastorte in the centre of a huge buffet of meats, cheeses and salads. Don’t forget to try herring and
schnapps!
How about
throwing a Resolutions Party, where people can really enjoy doing the thing they plan on giving up so much one
last time. Such as, having a gaming station big screen, or a dessert buffet. Have people write down their
resolutions and then read them out later on.
